Enzyme Lab

For this lab we used Ph. What we had to do was use different Ph in a tube of Peroxide and water. We had to watch it and see how it changes has we recorded data on it. As you can see our graph is in a shape of a V. So its telling us that it decreases then after a while it increases and at the highest Ph it has a bigger slope.

In this lab we used different types of temperature. We used hot, cold, normal, and warm temperature. In each test tube we put water and peroxide. The Hot one we boiled it for about ten minutes. For the cold one we froze it in a cold cooler for ten mins. For the warm one we put it in some warm water for ten mins as well. As for the normal one we just left it in the classroom since that was already at normal temperature. As you can see each one had a different slope. Each temperature had something different. The hot one had the highest slope as for the warm one had the lowest slope.

Poison- Botulinum

Botulinum is a toxic type A and a Type b. They are derived from bacteria that block muscular nerve signals. Injecting very small amounts into specific facial muscles blocks the muscle's impulse. This temporarily weakens the muscle and diminishes the unwanted lines. Botulinum has been used to treat muscle disorder since the  1980. Some examples are lazy eye and uncontrolled blinking. It was pioneered by dermatologic surgeons for cosmetic use in 1987.

Botulinum toxin type A is specifically indicated for the lines between the eyebrows, and it also can be effectively used for "off-label" indications in other facial areas. Even though this is a poison it is very helpful to a persons life. One thing that the poison can't do is fix the smile lines around the mouth because muscle action in this area is needed for important functions such as eating and talking.
After injection of the toxic it takes about 3 to 7 days after treatment for improvement. it generally last about 3 to 4 months. After that the effect gradually fades as muscle action returns. Some patients require more injection to make the effect last longer.
Any side effects are minimal temporary and typically relate to the local injection. Soreness or mild bruising may occur around the injection site. In some cases patients may develop weakness of muscles leading to temporary droopy brow or eyelid, but all these possible are mild effects.

Chewing Lab

Hypothesis:
Our hypothesis was that when Sarah and Maria ate sour skittles, we would see a noticeable difference in their mV per second. We also predicted that when they ate chocolate, boklava, and gum their amount of mV per seconds would be very similar. We thought these things because Maria usually eats more sour things, while Sarah prefers sweets. We knew the sweet items wouldn’t cause a great change in mV per second because sweets don’t cause the jaw to clench up as sour or bitter tastes would. Because Maria is used to eating sour food and Sarah is not, we predicted that Sarah’s mV per second jump compared to Maria’s.

Materials:
  1. Lab Pro
  2. Electro -Tabs
  3. Food Types
    1. Sour Skittles
    2. Baklava
    3. Chocolate
    4. Gum

Experiment:
First we placed the electro tabs on the upper and lower portion jaw and arm. Then we recorded the mV the resting period for five seconds, then the clenching period for five seconds, for a total of 30 seconds. After recording this we, we add food to the process. First we recorded a ten second resting period, then had Sarah and Maria put skittles in their mouth then chewed for 20 seconds. We repeated these steps with chocolate, baklava and gum. We then recorded our data and graphed it.

Results:
The results we found after doing out experiment showed when Sarah ate sour skittles, her m/v per second was really high. Yet, when Maria had ate the same skittles, her jaw was normal. We decided that this was due to Maria being so used to eating sour food, where Sarah was not. After Sarah and Maria ate the sweets, we noticed Sarah’s mV per second was a bit lower than Maria’s. We also found that with our last material, gum, Sarah’s and Maria’s mV were very alike, and continual pattern. This was because Sarah and Maria chewed there gum at a consistent pace.
